Bognor Regis is a well-known West Sussex seaside town, just over 50 miles from London.

The area was largely undeveloped until the 1860s when a station was built at Bognor.  This lead to a period of rapid development, as it became a fashionable place to have a seaside home.

Sir Richard Hotham was instrumental in the development of Bognor as a popular seaside resort, and this continued in the 20th Century with the arrival of Butlins - an amusement park and zoo, and in the 1960s, a holiday camp as well.

Today, Bognor is home to more than 60,000 people.  There is a pedestrianised town centre with a selection of shops.

Bognor has an excellent climate for a seaside resort - boasting the highest level of sunshine anywhere in Britain!

The town is also famous for its annual human powered flight competition, dubbed the “International Bognor Birman” - which sees variety of unlikely contraptions attempt to take flight from the end of the pier and remain airborne for the longest distance.

The competition is mainly a fun celebration of British eccentricity, and therefore most flights are short - sometimes very short!
